MD Energy Under Floor Heating Systems

Benefits of Underfloor Heating

    movement
  1. Comfort – a correctly designed and installed system runs efficiently and supports the body’s natural requirements for warm feet and cool head. The heat is uniformly rising from the floor rather than having warm pockets around radiators
Aesthetics – no radiators to get in the way of where you want to place your furniture
Silence – Underfloor Heating is virtually silent running
  2.  Low Maintenance – no need for manual operations such as bleeding radiators
  3. Cost effective – lower water temperature means lower heating bills
  4. Space – more space in the property as there are no radiators to get in the way
  5. Individual room control – you control what temperature your rooms are heated to on an individual basis – for example you can have your bedroom at a different temperature from your living room
  6. Healthy living – less dust movement in the room, and floors will dry quicker after cleaning
  7. Environment – lower fuel usage means lower CO2 emissions, better for the environment

How underfloor heating works

MD Energy Underfloor heating works through warm water pumped through the pipes laid in the floor of the room, only low temperatures are required as the large surface area of the floor is enough to warm the room efficiently.  An Underfloor heating system will generally run at around 45oC as opposed to 80 oC used in radiator systems, this means that energy and running cost savings can be found, especially when used with renewable heat sources such as heat pumps.

The diagrams to the right illustrate how the heat travels around the room in a radiator system on the left and from an underfloor heated system on the right. The underfloor heating system heats mainly the living area in the room, whilst the heat from the radiator system collects at the ceiling – a much less efficient heating method!

Underfloor heating can work with a large range of hot water supplies – usually with condensing boilers, but is often used in conjunction with renewable energies such as solar and geothermal systems.  For building extensions it can be connected into your existing central heating system with one of our Single Area Packs.
